The Team

People behind the scene

Pranav is a musician who plays over five instuments. Because of circumstantial pressures, he's currently enrolled in Bachelors of Architecture (B.Arch). His dream has always been to pursue music full time, travel the world admiring the creations of Nature and find the inner meaning of oneself. He has a deep level of respect and admiration for the independent musicians and loves to explore new and exciting indie talent of our country. Being the Co-Founder of Musicwhim, he takes care of all the marketing, customer acquisition and public relations for the company.

Naveen is a beatboxer and a self-taught coder who's currently pursuing Bachelors of Engineering (B.E) and loves designing and developing websites. He got his first computer at the age of 12 and decided to drop his ambition of becoming a Neuro surgeon to become a Computer Nerd! When he's not on his laptop, you can find him cycling or beatboxing. He lives a minimalist life, follows a carefully regimented diet and cycles atleast 20 kilometers a day. Being the Co-Founder of Musicwhim, he takes care of everything related to the products and services offered by the company.

Our story

How did Musicwhim start?

Musicwhim — the platform you see today, is a result of relentless pursuit of our founders Pranav and Naveen over a span of 2 years at the time when they were in the middle of their bachelors programs.

Who better to tell the story than the founders themselves? Here's what they've got to say:

We started Musicwhim to showcase the best and the brightest from the width and the breadth talents of our country and give them the spotlight they deserve. With this in mind, we set off scouring the internet to find musicians, and showcasing their best productions. Also, we had a kick-ass idea on how to help musicians monetize their music and build a hude fan base at the same time, but more on that later.

In the Spring of 2017, we made the decision to launch our own streaming platform, the first of its kind, a streaming platform that was made up of only Independent musicians. But we knew the world didn't need one more addition to a long list of music streaming platforms. We knew we had to be different. Luckily, we had somewhat of an idea on how to make it special.

Thus, we launched "Whimcharts" — a Independent musicians only top charts that gave the listeners Genre-wise curation of the best of the indie scene in the country! At the same time, we also launched "Dialogue" — a first of its kind interviews with Independent musicians by a streaming platform!

It's now Summer of 2017, we had a good number of musicians on board, and we were ready to launch the feature we had planned a year earlier. From the very beginning, we had one mission — to help musicians monetize their music — and we called it "Boombox".

Boombox was a one-on-one stream contest between two musicians and a winner was chosen based on who ever had the highest number of streams at the end of a span of three days. We had raised a small amount of money from our campaign on Ketto and used it to pay the musicians! But this turned out to be a bitter failure that taught us a few lessons that would guide us to where we are right now.

The fall of 2017 was the time when we completely understood the gravity of what we were embarking and decided to pivot and build groud up new platform with the same mission but with a completely different business outlook to it and that's when we wrote the new business plans that has shaped what the platform is now today!

We refused to move forward without some confirmation from people who had greater business knowledge than us. So we entered a couple of Business plan competitions to validate our idea, and gain some insights. Turns out, the second time was the charm. We won several business plan competitions hosted by some of the best Business schools and even got praised as one of the best business plans and ideas they had seen.

Without letting the praise getting to us, we laid down a step-by-step plan to relaunch Musicwhim as a platform that helps businesses enhance their customer experience with Music. The first step was to legally license music for our specific purposes which meant we couldn't run this as a hobby anymore. We incorporated in the last month of 2017 and set off to license music and build the all new platform. We dedicated six months to curate the best music to provide to our business customers and now, it's July of 2018 and we're now finally open for business!
